DIY Essential Oils Mom Life simplify

Simple DIY Bath Salt Recipes

Use Your Oils to the Last Drop.  Some days I feel like Sméagol staring at the bottom of an empty oil jar crying out, “My precious!!” Anyone else?

One way, I’ve found to utilize the very dregs of essential oils that should NEVER be wasted is to make simple bath salts.  When I reach the bottom of my empty oil jar, I place them in an empty glass container (like a Mason jar) and fill it up with Epsom salt, sea salt, and baking soda to absorb the very last of those oils.  I grab some washi tape, write on the outside what essential oils are ready for my bath salts.  (See the pic below.)

However, creating a simple DIY bath salt doesn’t have to be a last resort for essential oils.  I love to create purposeful, upcycled gifts for others by using these recipes I’m sharing here.  These DIY bath salt recipes make simple, easy, and inexpensive minimal waste gifts for friends and family.

Simple DIY Bath Salt Recipes

Things you need:

  • 1 cup Epsom Salt
  • ¼ cup Sea Salt
  • ¼ cup Baking Soda
  • 8-10 drops of Essential Oils*
  • Glass Storage Container

To Make:

Combine dry ingredients in a glass jar.  Add essential oils.  SHAKE the jar until the oils are dispersed throughout the jar.  I like to let it “sit” for a few hours before I actually use my salts.  This gives the salts time to absorb the oils.

It is really that simple.DIY simple bath salt

These make excellent pick me ups for when you or a friend may need a “time-out”.   These salts can help remove toxins from your body with a 20 minute soak.  Remember, your skin is your largest external organ that absorbs environmental factors.  *Treat it with care!*

Just like with these skin scrubs, you can put these salts in a Mason Jar, tie a pretty ribbon around them, and write a heartfelt note.  Be sure you include the oils that you used.

These recipes double or triple SUPER easy.  I LOVE to make up several batches at once and have these on hand with different combinations depending on what my body and mind need.  Washi tape is an easy way to make a label with the oil combination inside.

*Note: Wash out and sanitize any glass jar and reuse it for something like this!

Some of my favorite combinations are:

REVIVE:  2 drops of each: lavender, cedarwood, orange, frankincense

RECOVER:  4 drops of each: stress away & panaway

DETOX:   2 drops of each:  frankincense, rosemary, lemon, thieves

RESTORE:  4 drops lavender, 2 drops frankincense, 2 drops peace and calming

CALM DOWN: 2 drops of each: stress away, panaway, peace + calming

FEEL BEAUTIFUL: 2 drops of joy, valor, frankincense.
