Godly Affirmations Living a Dauntless Life

For with God Nothing is Impossible

“For with God Nothing is Impossible.” -Luke 1:37

I remember finding this little verse hidden within the “Christmas story” years ago when I was in Buenos Aires, Argentina doing mission work.  I was part of a six-week missionary trip with the organization Let’s Start Talking in which English speakers are sent around the world to provide one-to-one conversational English with American speakers using the Gospel of Luke written on a sixth-grade reading level.

As part of our training, we were required to learn how to ask three open-ended questions for our speaking partner to answer (a fabulous listening strategy, by the way, my friend).  We were also required to have a “seed thought” to plant in each passage.

It was during this time, I encountered Luke’s retelling to Theopholis the birth of Jesus.  I was reading the “Christmas story” in June with a person that may not even be a believer.  This, my friend, challenged me to encounter this passage with new eyes.  What questions could I ask?  What seed would I plant?  How would I use God’s words to speak through me without getting in the way of this miracle?  And that is how I found this little, hidden treasure.

How do I use God's Words to speak through me_.png

26 In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” 29 But she was greatly troubled at the saying and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. 30 And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

34 And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”

35 And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. 36 And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God. 38 And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

*Emphasis is mine.

This is not just a “Christmas story” or a “Christmas miracle” to be read only in December.  How I missed this for so many years!

Do you ever have the question, “How did I miss this?  How could I not see this?”  Perhaps we see our circumstances and our lives with the same limited viewpoint.  I want to challenge your thinking and your perspective today in the same way the Lord challenged me years ago:  Do you believe that nothing is impossible with God?

Are Mary’s Questions Your Questions?

I love this human side of the young virgin Mary.  The angel appears to her and she is “greatly troubled” by Gabriel’s greetings! Oh, friend!!  How many times does God come to us to greet us with a beautiful purpose and we are troubled!  We are young and naive in our beliefs about His “impossible” power that works through us to bring forth His miracles!

The angel has just revealed to Mary God’s chosen plan for her.  He has just revealed that Jesus will save the world, and Mary wants to know about how God’s miracle is going to work in her life!

Isn’t that so like us?  God reveals to us in the secret places His whispers of great miracles that can change the world and we want to know how God is going to work that in our own lives!  How near-sighted we can be sometimes, my friend!!

Did you notice what Mary asks the angel Gabriel, “How can this be?!” And the testimony of God’s power was revealed to Mary (and to all of us) through these words, “For with God nothing is impossible.” (Luke 1:37)

Did you notice the simple response?

Mary has just been promised something she doesn’t yet understand.  She is promised to witness God’s miracle through her. Friend, how many times does God give us a vision and a hope for our own miracles, and we ask, “How is this possible?” and we give God our worldly explanation of why the impossible is not a reality!

The Word revealed to Mary gave her hope. This life-giving phrase gives us hope still today. With our tiny mustard-seed faith, mountains are moved. Nothing is impossible for our Father.

Overcomer, it is through our obedience that He brings forth the miracles!

So please know this, whatever “impossible” you are facing, The Author and Perfecter of our faith makes all things possible when we trust and obey His plans.

Wait for It… Oh, but Patience is so Difficult!

How many times has God revealed this “impossible” to us, but we question and give up hope because we lack the patience and perseverance to wait for His miracle.

God quickly began this promise in Mary’s life, but friend, this beginning of Jesus’s life was just the beginning to the true miracle.  The true miracle happened thirty-something years later as God’s great work gave His life on a cross.

So many times God begins miracles in our life by planting seeds.  He reveals His purpose for our lives and we say like Mary, “I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”  We are excited.  We ponder His promises and we wait patiently in hope to birth the miracle God has given.

But, we only catch a tiny glimpse of His promise and soon hope fades because the work is too difficult.  We cry, “Lord, this is too difficult!  Why have I not received my promise?!”  Gosh, friend, we sound like Israelites crying in the wilderness!!

We must wait patiently to give birth to this miracle.  His Word shows us the “impossible is His reality” so do not give up hope in the times of darkness.

“But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. ” (Luke 2:19)

Friend, Mary didn’t give up hope.  She endured hardships. I can only imagine what her neighbors and friends had to say as she was pregnant out of wedlock. She traveled miles and miles on the back of a donkey to birth a baby in a lowly place.  Years later, she’s fleeing for their life of her child across nations.

I imagine as she pondered the life of her son, she finally began to understand that she was just the vessel for God’s true miracle.  With what seemed like the end of his life, she watched her “miracle” be ridiculed, spat upon, and crucified.

It seemed the miracle and promise she birthed wasn’t going to be king as the angel Gabriel proclaimed to her years ago in the dark of night.

But, we know the story ends differently.  We know that Mary’s miracle was truly God’s miracle through her as God once again fulfilled His promise in ways that our first limited vision could never have imagined.  “For with God, nothing is impossible.”

God’s Miracle Through You

Friend, we serve a God who makes mountains move with the faith of a mustard seed.  He plants seeds of miracles within each and every one of us.  For we are “His handiwork” and we are made with a purpose.

Whatever miracle God has revealed to you in the secret place, I beg you to keep waiting for it to be fulfilled.  Keep enduring and working and tending the seed He planted within you.  I know that it can seem overwhelming some days.  The mountains and the Giants can be huge.  The lies and labels from the Enemy can get in the way.  I ask you to remember His word, “For, with God, nothing is impossible.”  This includes your miracle.

Find Your Strength

15 psalms to strengthen you when you're feeling overwhelmedLast week I shared “15 Psalms to Strengthen You When You’re Feeling Overwhelmed”  because I know there are days when waiting and working seem overwhelming.  These Psalms are some of my favorite passages to remind me of God’s greatness and power.  I encourage you to come read and see God’s promises of hope to be encouraged.

Friend, I spent years with a limited perspective on what God could do.  Oh, I read His miracles and I knew those old stories, but I had labeled myself as “unworthy” for God’s miracles to happen through me.  I discovered this mindset was a lie the Enemy had labeled me with to blind me to God’s small miracles and purpose in my life.  I know so many who do not understand the power of God’s truth in our lives.  I’ve experienced what happens when we transform our thinking like Paul writes about in Romans 12:1-2.

Every time I think, “Lord, I can’t do this,” I am reminded of who what God can do as His character and promises are revealed to me in His word.  We need to become unlabeled from the Enemy’s lies and claim our identity in Christ.  Mary’s story reveals to us what happens when we say “Yes!” to God’s seed-planting promises.  We give birth to beautiful miracles that change our world.

I invite you to join me in becoming unlabeled by the Enemy so that you can truly experience a transforming power that happens when we shift our mindset and claim God’s words and promises in our lives.

That’s a Promise You Can Claim

Giant Slayer, God is ready to plant His miracles and promises in your life when you are ready to truly accept them.  I challenge you to spend intentional time alone with our Creator, get “in the Word” and hide it in your heart.  His promises and truth are words we can claim in our lives now to bring for the miracles later.

And Overcomer, these promises are not just for you and me.  They are for all His children.  I challenge you to step out and boldly live for the Creator with me.  Will you share this post with the buttons on the sidebar on Facebook or Pinterest to encourage believers everywhere to lay claim and give birth to the promises God give us?

Blessings from my heart to yours!
